Black Friday 2023 has come and gone, and Cyber Monday is upon us. Shoppers are still going for deals – much more cautiously with inflation and the economy being major issues in the U.S. right now. If you’re looking for electronics, appliance, or other retail deals, retailers like Walmart, Amazon, and many more are offering good or even great deals, post-Black Friday. It’s best to go to the websites of the retailer you’re shopping at to find these deals, so don’t hesitate to search online and do your due diligence before making a purchase.
Staying in a budget (if you have one, as many people do) is very important. Figure out what you need, how much you can afford to spend, and stick to your budget. Small businesses may offer some good deals, and it’s a good thing to help out those retailers as well. That will go a long way in making your post-holiday bills less of an issue. Happy Holidays From Consumer and Car Exam Reviews and Consumer Car Exam, and shop smartly!

Tesla Cybertruck Progressing, but it’s Tardy to the Party
Tesla’s long-awaited and very overdue Cybertruck is progressing on the production line. With its production taking place in Texas, it already looks a bit outdated, and one has to wonder how well it will sell in today’s market (and much it will sell for). Ford has been selling its electric F-150 Pickup Truck for some time now; Rivian has had its truck out and on the streets for awhile (but how long will that last), Ram has an exciting new electric pickup truck in the works (the concept looks awesome), and other companies are in the EV truck market or about to enter it soon.
With its sharp edges and angles, the Cybertruck – at least styling-wise – just seems to look outdated and a bit odd. I admire Elon Musk’s ability to think outside the box with the Cybertruck, but when it’s all said and done, will buyers snap it up like they’ve done with the Tesla Model S, Model 3, etc.? That remains to be seen. Being tardy to the party will either payoff or backfire for Tesla.
The Chevy Bolt is Done – What’s next for Chevrolet? Also: EV Issues
Now that Chevrolet had pulled the plug and the aging (but still selling well) Chevy Bolt, what’s next for the GM Division? An all-new electric Blazer EV will be hitting the market soon, and some have already left the Mexico-based assembly plant, headed for the U.S. Maximum range of some of the models will hit 320 miles – the more the better.
EV Issues
The problem still facing electric vehicles is limited range from most EV’s, infrastructure (the limited charging stations is still a major issue), strain on the U.S. power grid, specialized materials needed to make EV batteries, and EV prices, along with other issues. Going all-in with EV’s may prove to be a mistake for the automotive industry as time goes on.
The U.S. Government (as well as state governments, and other countries as well) are trying to kill off Internal Combustion Vehicles as quickly as possible, but there are a number of negative ramifications. Relying on foreign entities like China for battery materials is not the best idea, and with the current political climate, it doesn’t seem to be the most prudent, either. Time will certainly tell if it is, or is not.

September 30-October 2, 2022 brought the 1st MEGUIAR’S SO-CAL NATIONALS 2022 to Del Mar, California, filled with lots of very cool classic cars and trucks, venders, racers, and families seeking some great fun to share!
The Goodguys put on another great event (as always) at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The list of great classic cars was long, from popular vehicles like Mustangs, Camaros and Corvettes, to some rare ones, like the 1999 Shelby Series 1, and a 1964 Rambler Pickup Truck.
There were also a nice collection of woodies throughout the fairgrounds – there was something for everyone. Along with the Goodguys CPP Autocross and the Indoor Car Show, there was a Kids Zone, live entertainment, the PPG Lowrider Palace, a swap meet, and lots of venders, including one with a cool in-home setup that features the rear ends of classic muscle cars (with bright taillights!), a vender with light up signs, so much more. You could even find some parts for your classic car, which was an added plus for show attendees with their own classic cars.

Good Grades: The 2022 Kia Soul is more refined than the last generation Soul tested by Consumer and Car Exam Reviews + Consumer and Car Exam.
2022 Kia Soul
Good Grades: The 2022 Kia Soul is more refined than the last generation Soul tested by Consumer and Car Exam Reviews + Consumer and Car Exam. Styling is sharper and more up to date, the stereo sounds good and seems easy to use (you can select specific artists, albums, and songs to play), the seat comfort/overall ergonomics are still nice, the brakes work well, acceleration is mighty impressive – the 201 hp, 1.6 liter turbo four cylinder feels like a powerful V6, not a four cylinder engine, and the automatic transmission shifts smoothly. The fuel economy for such an engine also impresses; it averaged well over 30 mpg with highway driving. Rear cargo room with the seats folded down is very, very good. Interior room is also very good for its size. Finally, interior noise levels at highway speeds are acceptable.
Bad Grades: Sloppy handling still hampers the 2022 Kia Soul – mountain driving doesn’t inspire any confidence whatsoever. It’s fine on the straightaways, but a Nervous Nellie going around curves. Kia still hasn’t corrected that issue from the last generation Soul, which is very disappointing. The windows need to be larger again, not fashionably smaller. Visibility is affected somewhat.
Final Grade: The 2022 Kia Soul pulls in a solid “B” grade – It’s a nice, solid ride, held back by its softly-tuned suspension, once again. If it weren’t for that, the 2022 Kia Soul Turbo would be a hoot to drive.
Good Grades: Good power for the 315 hp 4.6 Liter V8, solid 5-speed manual transmission, competent braking, good exterior styling and better interior than the 2005-2009 models
Mustang GT Convertible – 2010 – A Top 8th Anniversary Rewind Review – Consumer and Car Exam
Good Grades: Good power for the 315 hp 4.6 Liter V8, solid 5-speed manual transmission, competent braking, good exterior styling and better interior than the 2005-2009 models, Microsoft/Ford Sync System, comfortable seats, cool sequential turn signals at the rear.
Bad Grades: Retro is fine, but the skinny numbers on the speedometer and tachometer need to go away–now! I still felt like it could use more horsepower, small back seats, and I didn’t care for the “Grabber Blue” color on my test car.
Final Grade: Chevrolet Camaro sales have been topping the Mustang for several reasons this year–one of them being huge horsepower advantages with the V6 and V8 engines. Ford freshened the Mustang for 2010, but left the outdated powertrains alone–a big mistake! If you are in the market for a Mustang, wait until spring and get a 2011 Mustang. You can get the new 5.0 liter 412 horsepower V8 Mustang GT or the new 305 horsepower, 3.7 liter V6 in the base model with a whopping 31 miles-per-gallon fuel economy on the highway (only 19 m.p.g. city), apparently a record for a 300+ hp engine. By the way, the 2011 Shelby GT 500 gains 10 hp to reach 550 horsepower. I have a feeling when I test the 2011 models, the Mustang will surely get a better grade! Consumer and Car Exam Grade: B/B+

Ram Trucks and Dodge Vehicles lead the 2021 JD Power Initial Quality Survey
Ram Trucks and Dodge cars lead the 2021 JD Power Initial Quality Survey. According to JD Power, RamTrucks became the highest-ranking brandin overall initial quality for the first time, with a low score score of 128 PP (problems per 100 vehicles) in the first 90 days of ownership. Dodge was also a huge surprise, coming in in second place with a score of 139 PP 100, followed by Lexus at 144. However, the Chrylser brand came last place, with a whopping 251 PP – simply horrible. Will the Ram Trucks and Dodge cars hold up in the long term? Time will tell.

Happy Birthday, Ford Mustang! – Consumer and Car Exam Reviews and Consumer and Car Exam
57 years ago on April 17, 1964, the Ford Mustang made its world debut – and what a success it was, selling over a million units early on, and it’s still the top selling car in its category in America today. The mustang has had its ups and downs over the years, but it’s the the benchmark of muscle cars, and the Mustang Mach E Electric Crossover has the Mustang entering brand new territory in its storied history.
Ford Mustang Mach E
It is the vehicle that makes Ford stand out with long time car buyers (one could argue the F-150 Pickup is a hallmark of Ford, as well), and even though ford has virtually deep-sixed all of the other coupes and sedans here in the U.S. market, it keeps the Mustang in the stable.

Dodge Charger – March Muscle Car Mayhem! – Consumer and Car Exam!
The Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack is a 392 C.I., 485 horsepower beast that’s no slouch–an American muscle car in the truest sense. Even with four doors, the Charger Scat pack blasts off from a standstill with an authority that no other sedan that Consumer and Car Exam has tested can touch up to this point.
Dodge Charger vs. Kia Stinger – March Muscle Car Mayhem! American Beast vs. Korean Stunner – Consumer and Car Exam
So, enter the 365 HP twin turbo V6 Kia Stinger GT. It weighs over 500 lbs. lighter, and even though it has 120 HP less than the Charger Scat Pack, it’s still a monster to be reckoned with in its own right.
Here’s the start of Consumer and Car Exam’s 2nd Annual “March Muscle Car Mayhem!”
2018 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack – Plusses: Awesome, push-you-back-in-your-seat acceleration (it seemed to out-accelerate a 2018 Challenger Scat Pack during a back-to-back test–no kidding!), strong brakes, comfortable seats (front and back), well laid out and informative infotainment system and ergonomics, good handling, decent interior/trunk room. The ride is on the firmer side, but at least it’s not horrible.
Dodge Charger vs. Kia Stinger – March Muscle Car Mayhem! American Beast vs. Korean Stunner – Consumer and Car Exam
Minuses: The front headlight and rear taillight designs leave a lot to be desired–they’re not as sharp as the 2011-14 designs. They look cartoonish, which takes some edge off the overall styling–which is too bad, because the rest of the Charger looks sharp. Don’t expect good fuel economy–it’s a gas-thirsty V8, for goodness sake.
Dodge Charger vs. Kia Stinger – An unlikely muscle car battle is coming soon! Consumer and Car Exam #consumerandcarexam
Final Grade: If you can handle all that horsepower under the hood, then drive it–you’ll love it–especially if you want all of that power and four doors. Consumer and Car Exam & The Car Exam grade: a pavement blistering A/A-

Dodge Charger vs. Kia Stinger – March Muscle Car Mayhem! American Beast vs. Korean Stunner – Consumer and Car Exam
2018 Kia Stinger GT – Plusses: The 3.3 liter, twin turbocharged V6 that stuns you with potency, its power. Step on the gas, and while it’s not quite as dramatic as the Charger, you’ll still be in for quite a thrill ride. Braking is also effective, and gets the job done. The ride isn’t too firm and handing seem pretty sharp. The seats coddle you like a cocoon; they’re comfy, and very supportive. Visibility is decent, otherwise. The car’s exterior is definitely stylish and not bland–think of it as a better-styled, faster, racier version of the Optima–but even better. Ergonomics and controls inside are acceptable.
Kia Stinger GT – Dodge Charger vs. Kia Stinger – March Muscle Car Mayhem! American Beast vs. Korean Stunner – Pt. 2 – Consumer and Car Exam
Minuses: You sit just a tad low in the car, so getting in and out might be somewhat difficult for some. The blind spot monitoring is welcome, because you’ll need it with the larger C-pillar blind spots at the rear of the car. Visibility is decent, otherwise. The Stinger is brand new, and lacks the cache of the Charger–the Charger name has been legendary for many decades now. Resale value probably won’t match the Charger R/T Scat Pack, either. However, that may be irrelevant to some or most buyers.
Kia Stinger – Dodge Charger – March Muscle Car Mayhem! – Consumer and Car Exam!
Final Grade: Kia really impresses with the Stinger GT. It’s a nicely put together hot rod sedan, and a blast to drive. Consumer and Car Exam & The Car Exam grade: an enthusiastic A/A-.
Dodge Charger vs. Kia Stinger – March Muscle Car Mayhem! American Beast vs. Korean Stunner – Consumer and Car Exam
Dodge Charger vs. Kia Stinger – March Muscle Car Mayhem! Part 3 – Recap and The Decision! Consumer and Car Exam
Dodge Charger vs. Kia Stinger – March Muscle Car Mayhem! American Beast vs. Korean Stunner – Consumer and Car Exam
…So, is the Charger or the Stinger the winner? This is based solely on taste: If flat-out horsepower and hot Mopar action are what you want (and the legendary name to back it up), go Charger. If you want to use less fuel, prefer lighter curb weight, you want to fast, and you don’t mind the unknown quantity that the Kia is because it’s so new, go with the Stinger.
Reliability may be an issue with both cars, so take note of that, if that concerns you. Insurance costs may affect your choice–but probably not, so go with your heart and your gut. If they both hold up well and satisfy their owners, you can’t go wrong either way.
March Muscle Car Mayhem! 2018 – Part 4: The 2018 Mustang GT Consumer and Car Exam
March Muscle Car Mayhem! 2018 – Part 4: The 2018 Mustang GT – Consumer and Car Exam
Plusses: the 5.0 liter 460 hp, 420 ft lbs. of torque v8 engine, coupled with its 3,705 lb curb weight, makes this mustang super fast, and an absolute blast to drive. Set on the gas pedal, and your acceleration is blistering. The 460 hp Mustang GT shows the clear difference between that car and the Ecoboost Four Cylinder Base Mustang. This is a serious contender the the Scat Pack Challenger R/T (can you say, “May Muscle Car Mayhem, 2018 Edition!?” You’d better say yes to that!). Good visibility, braking, handling, nice quality interior, front seat comfort, and interior/exterior styling.
March Muscle Car Mayhem! 2018 – Parts 4 and 5: The 2018 Mustang GT and the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro LT – Consumer and Car Exam
The back seat is a penalty box, the trunk isn’t exactly large–okay, but don’t expect to haul lots of cargo. The low entry/exit height level of the seats may be a problem for some people. 460 hp may be a bit much for some people. If you’re expecting awesome (of semi-frugal) fuel economy, You’d better buy the base model Mustang with the Ecoboost Four Cylinder engine–the V8 is a thirsty engine.
March Muscle Car Mayhem! 2018 – Parts 4 and 5: The 2018 Mustang GT and the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro LT – Consumer and Car Exam
March Muscle Car Mayhem! 2018 – Parts 4 and 5: The 2018 Mustang GT and the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro LT – Consumer and Car Exam
Final Grade: The 2018 Mustang GT is a hoot to drive, and if it’s reliable, it will have owners grinning from ear to ear. Consumer and Car Exam and The Car Exam grade: a very strong “A” grade. May Muscle Car Mayhem (and the Dodge Challenger Scat Pack): here we come!
March Muscle Car Mayhem! 2018 – Parts 4 and 5: The 2018 Mustang GT and the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro LT – Consumer and Car Exam
March Muscle Car Mayhem! 2018 – Part 5: The 2018 Chevrolet Camaro LT Four Cylinder
Plusses: That classic Camaro styling with modern twist, generally comfortable seats–to a point, okay trunk space, better dash layout than the last generation Camaro. Braking is acceptable, as is handling.
Minuses: The 275 hp four cylinder engine in the Camaro is rough, loud, and unrefined–you pay a huge penalty for that engine, and if you’re wise, if you plan to buy the base Camaro LT, pony up the extra cash and get the optional V6. It’s far superior in every way; maybe not in fuel economy, but the obnoxious four cylinder isn’t worth it–at all, plain and simple.
March Muscle Car Mayhem! 2018 – Parts 4 and 5: The 2018 Mustang GT and the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro LT – Consumer and Car Exam
The Camaro still suffers from the same problems as last year: horrible visibility out of the windows, bathtub/submarine seating, the tiny back seat, and the dash feels low rent, due to the metal materials.
March Muscle Car Mayhem! 2018 – Parts 4 and 5: The 2018 Mustang GT and the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro LT – Consumer and Car Exam
Final Grade: The annoying four cylinder engine is reason enough all by itself to steer clear of this Camaro. The Ecoboost Four cylinder in the Mustang puts this four banger in the Camaro LT to endless shame. The 2018 Camaro LT’s four cylinder engine is a stinker, and GM should go back to the drawing board with that one. It needs to be far smoother and refined than it is right now. Consumer and Car Exam and The Car Exam Grade: A disappointing “D” grade.
…Coming in May: May Muscle Car Mayhem 2018! 2018 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack vs. 2018 Ford Mustang GT! The Battle Royale you’ve been waiting for!

The Ford Mustang Turns 60! Happy Birthday, Mustang!
On April 17, 1964, the Ford Mustang made its official debut at the New York World’s Fair, and it was a stellar success. Within the first year and a half, Ford sold over 1 million Mustangs, shattering sales expectations. Chevrolet, Pontiac, Dodge, etc. had to play catch up, rapidly creating the Camaro, Firebird, Challenger, and others would join the pony car race, as well. Sixty years later, only the Mustang is left in the hunt; its only remaining competitors have been cancelled (GM has once again ended production of the Camaro, and Stellantis has ended production of the Dodge Challenger).
For now, the Mustang still stands strong and carried the muscle car crown, from the GT to the even more impressive Dark Horse Model. Happy Birthday, Ford Mustang – 60 years of evolution simply looks terrific.
